Shopify Market-driven shipping

Rolling out from October 1, 2026, Shopify is gradually moving from Delivery Profiles to Market Driven Shipping as the way shipping settings are configured for Shopify stores

What is Market Driven Shipping?

With the current shipping setup, shipping rates are configured in Shopify's Delivery Profiles. With Market Driven Shipping, shipping settings are instead configured based on the store's Shopify Markets. This allows shipping options to be managed according to the market a customer belongs to, such as a specific country or group of countries.

The change means that shipping configuration is increasingly managed from the Markets section of Shopify rather than from Delivery Profiles.

Current setup: Delivery Profiles

Traditionally, Shopify stores have configured shipping through Delivery Profiles.

A delivery profile defines, among other things:

  • Which products belong to the profile
  • Which shipping zones are available
  • Which shipping rates are offered
  • Which locations can fulfill the products

Up until this moment, Packrooster has read the relevant shipping configuration from these Delivery Profiles when synchronizing shipping settings.

New setup: Market Driven Shipping

With Market Driven Shipping, shipping configurations are associated with Shopify Markets.

Instead of configuring shipping primarily through a Delivery Profile, the store's shipping setup is determined by the Markets configuration.

For example, a store could have separate markets for:

  • Finland
  • Sweden
  • Germany
  • Rest of Europe

Each market can have its own shipping configuration and available delivery options.

This makes the shipping setup more closely connected to the market in which the customer is shopping.

What does this mean for Packrooster?

Packrooster already supports Shopify's Market Driven Shipping model.

For stores using Market Driven Shipping, Packrooster will synchronize shipping settings from Shopify Markets in addition to supporting the existing Delivery Profile-based configuration.

Markets are stored separately in Packrooster and are synchronized for stores where shipping is driven by Shopify Markets.

The scheduled shipping zone synchronization also takes Markets into account.

Important

Market Driven Shipping does not immediately replace Delivery Profiles for all Shopify stores.

Shopify is rolling out the new model gradually, so stores may currently use either the traditional Delivery Profile configuration or the newer Market Driven Shipping configuration.

Packrooster supports the relevant configuration model used by the store.

What should I do?

If your Shopify store has been moved to Market Driven Shipping, configure your shipping settings in Shopify Markets rather than trying to manage them through Delivery Profiles.

Packrooster will synchronize the relevant Market Driven Shipping configuration automatically.

If your store still uses Delivery Profiles, no immediate changes are required. Your existing shipping configuration will continue to work as before.
