How to setup shipping methods

There are three types of shipping methods with Packrooster Shipping:

  1. Shopify shipping methods (created in your Shopify store)
  2. Pickup Points (activated in Packrooster Shipping)
  3. Custom shipping methods (created in Packrooster Shipping)

The first one is available for everyone, and you can connect Shopify shipping methods to the carrier services that you want to use. The other two requires a third-party carrier calculated shipping -feature in your Shopify store. This feature is included in the Advanced Shopify and Shopify Plus plans, and can be added to "Shopify" plan for a monthly fee. However, if you're on the Shopify plan, and you switch from monthly to yearly billing, you can ask to get the third-party calculated shipping rates feature added for free. For Shopify basic plan third-party carrier calculated shipping is not available.

1. Connect Shopify shipping methods to carrier services

Once you have configured the carriers that you use in Packrooster Shipping's settings ( here's a guide for that ), you can connect the shipping methods that you have in your Shopify store to the carrier services from Packrooster Shipping:

Settings -> Connect shipping methods

Click on the first field, and it should have a list of your shipping methods. Choose a shipping method, and then select the carrier to which you'd like to connect that shipping method, and then choose the service of that carrier. Do the same step for each shipping method that you want to connect. Once this is done, Packrooster Shipping understands the shipping method by its' name (remember - if you rename your Shopify shipping method, you need to connect it again) and creates a label for you using the service that you have connected it to.

2. Activate Pickup Points

Once you have you have configured the carriers that you use, and the carrier supports Pickup Points, you can activate the Pickup Points from Packrooster Shipping settings (note: you will need Shopify carrier service for this):

Settings -> Shipping methods -> + Add pickup points

From there, you can select the desired carrier and shipping method, give the pickup point a price and configurate its visibility at the checkout.

Pickup Points are displayed in Shopify Checkout using the details of the order. if there are available Pickup Points close to the customers' shipping address, the Pickup Points are displayed.

Good to know: Most of the carrier pickup points have a maximum weight and if the order weights more than the limit, the pickup points are not displayed. It uses the total weight of the products in the order plus the weight of the packaging material that you have set in Packrooster Shipping settings together.

3. Custom shipping methods

If you need advanced shipping methods for your Shopify Store, this is the solution. You can limit the display of these shipping methods by a lot more than the Shopify's weight and price based rates (note: you will need Shopify carrier service for this).

You can use any of the details in the order, like shipping address zip code, products within the order, product types, product tags, shipping zone. You can also use extra services of some carriers, like "dangerous goods" or "fragile" etc.

To create Custom shipping methods, head to Packrooster Shipping:

Settings -> Shipping methods -> + New shipping method

You can also freely name your Custom shipping methods and give them a description that is visible in Shopify checkout.
